Gov Okpebholo Sets Up Electricity Regulatory Commission In Edo

Edo State Government on Friday inform the general public that the Executive Governor of the State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Dr. Shittu H. Shaibu as Chairman of the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq. who stated this in a public announcement made available to newsmen in Benin, the state capital, added that other members of the Commission are Engr. Inegbedion Oria Thomas – Member, Abdulrazak Abubakar – Member, Engr. Alex Edomwonyi Onaiwu – Member and Patrick Eromosele Iluobe, Esq. – Member.

Acording to Ikhilor Esq, the nomination of these distinguished professionals underscores the commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo to assembling a team of competent and experienced individuals to provide effective regulation of the electricity sector in Edo State.

He said: “Dr. Shittu H. Shaibu is a seasoned Nigerian public sector professional, electricity regulatory expert, consumer protection specialist, reform practitioner and institutional development consultant with over three decades of progressive experience across Nigeria’s electricity supply industry, public enterprise reform, regulatory governance, consumer affairs, procurement, project management and public sector administration.

His distinguished career spans the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) under the Presidency and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), where he rose to the position of General Manager, Consumer Affairs, before his retirement in 2024. Across these institutions, he acquired a unique combination of operational electricity sector experience, national reform exposure, regulatory leadership and institutional development expertise.

“Engr. Inegbedion Oria Thomas is a seasoned Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in rural electrification project management and engineering. He possesses proven expertise in strategic planning, technical oversight, project coordination, pre-commissioning inspections, project planning and technical compliance.

He retired as Director of Projects at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abuja.

“Abdulrazak Abubakar is a dedicated financial engineer, researcher and entrepreneur with expertise in quantitative finance, economic policy and blockchain technology. He is a Director and Financial Analyst at RAMIK Accountant (Pty) Ltd, South Africa and previously served as a Research Assistant at the University of Johannesburg.

Driven by a commitment to sustainable finance, technological innovation and economic inclusion, Abdulrazak Abubakar seeks to bridge the gap between financial markets and emerging technologies.

“Engr. Alex Edomwonyi Onaiwu is an accomplished Electrical Engineer with over eight years of experience in delivering technical projects from conception to completion. He possesses proven expertise in systems design, operational efficiency and cross-functional team leadership and is committed to providing innovative solutions that exceed performance, quality and safety standards.

“Patrick Eromosele Iluobe, Esq. is a senior legal practitioner and public sector administrator with extensive experience spanning legal practice, legislative service, government advisory appointments and business operations management in Nigeria.

His professional background includes litigation support, legal drafting, public policy coordination, stakeholder engagement and executive-level advisory functions, complemented by hands-on management experience. He brings strong administrative, communication and decision-making skills, with a demonstrated record of service in the legal, governmental and commercial sectors.

“Their names will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation,” he stated.
