Guinness Nigeria PLC, a leading beverage company dedicated to sustainable community development, proudly announce the successful completion and commissioning of Phase II of Guinness Way (formerly known as Iyoha Road) in the Oregbeni Community, Benin, Edo State.

This significant milestone was celebrated in the presence of Edo State Government dignitaries, community leaders, and representatives from Guinness Nigeria, symbolizing the company’s steadfast commitment to enhancing infrastructure and fostering socio-economic progress in its host communities.

Guinness Way Phase II is a 500-meter asphalt road and major concrete drainage project with an investment of over N500 million naira, representing the second phase of a comprehensive community development plan initiated by Guinness Nigeria. This road is part of a 1.5km stretch beside the Guinness Brewery, and serves as a critical link for Oregbeni residents, providing improved access to essential services and economic opportunities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria PLC, Adebayo Alli, highlighted the importance of the project and the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility.

“The commissioning of this Phase II of Guinness Way underscores our ongoing commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate.

“By investing in infrastructure and fostering socio-economic development, we aim to create a lasting legacy of progress and prosperity,” said Alli.

This initiative is part of Guinness Nigeria’s broader sustainability strategy, which is anchored on three main pillars: Promoting Positive Drinking, Building Thriving Communities, and Reducing Environmental Impact. The road construction addresses a severe erosion issue that had rendered the area impassable, ensuring safe passage for pedestrians and vehicles alike.

Guinness Nigeria’s commitment to Oregbeni community extends far beyond this road project. Since 1997, the company has provided potable drinking water to the community through the Water of Life Initiative. Additionally, Guinness Nigeria awarded scholarships to local students, supporting their tertiary education through the Guinness Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme.

Over the past decade, the company has also been instrumental in the construction and rehabilitation of major roads within the community, including Igiesota Street, Ighodalo road, and the phased construction of Guinness Way. This is coupled with their efforts in renovating Ogbeni Primary School in 2008, which involved roof repairs, painting, fencing, and the provision of new WASH facilities in the community’s primary school. The company’s operations and investments in the community continues to provide employment opportunities for members of the community over several decades.

These initiatives reflect Guinness Nigeria’s holistic approach to corporate citizenship, prioritizing the well-being and empowerment of community members.

In his speech, Adebayo Alli also emphasized the broader impact of Guinness Nigeria’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts in Oregbeni and Edo State. “Our business success is measured by more than just financial targets. The positive contribution we make to lives, communities, and the environment through good business practices is important to our long-term success, and we are fully committed to this cause. From our Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme to the Water of Life project, and the renovation of the Ogbeni Primary School, our contributions extend far beyond infrastructure development.”

He added, “The commissioning of this over NGN500 million investment is a testament to our Spirit of Progress agenda and our unwavering belief in the transformative power of collaborative action.”

Hon. Isoken Omo, Commissioner, Edo State Ministry of Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban and Regional Development, commended Guinness Nigeria for their impactful initiatives, stating, “Guinness Nigeria has once again demonstrated its commitment to the development of our community. The construction of Guinness Way is a significant step forward in improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for our residents. We appreciate their continued support and dedication to fostering sustainable development.”

Guinness Nigeria PLC extends its gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the Guinness Way project and reaffirms its commitment to advancing community development initiatives across Nigeria.
